A painter from the Azuchi-Momoyama period and early Edo period. His given name was Shigego, and his pen name was Ichio. He was born as the son of Ikenaga Shigemoto, a vassal of Araki Murashige. Around 1578, he entered Negoro Mikkyo-in, but later returned to secular life to study painting under Kano Shoei. In 1581, he was permitted to use the Kano name, and around that time he gained the support of Hideyoshi, the ruler of Japan, and thereafter served as an artist for the Toyotomi family. At Hideyori's command, he made a copy of the "Ieharaji Engi." The "Toyokuni Festival Screen" (owned by Toyokuni Shrine) is an official record of the special festival held in 1604 to mark the seventh anniversary of Hideyoshi's death, and is one of Naizen's representative works. It was donated by Hideyori in 1608. 安土桃山・江戸初期の画家。名は重郷,号は一翁。荒木村重の家臣池永重元の子として生まれる。天正6(1578)年ごろ,根来密厳院に入ったが,のち還俗して狩野松栄に絵を学んだ。15年には狩野氏を称することを許され,またそのころ,天下人秀吉の支持を得て,以後,豊臣家の絵事を勤めた。秀頼の命で「家原寺縁起」の模写をしている。「豊国祭礼図屏風」(豊国神社蔵)は,慶長9(1604)年秀吉の7回忌臨時大祭の公式記録ともいうべきもので,内膳の代表作である。同11年秀頼によって奉納された。その他内膳の作としては「南蛮屏風」(神戸市立博物館蔵)が著名である。<参考文献>成沢勝嗣「狩野内膳考」(『神戸市立博物館研究紀要』2号)
