...In Buddhist terms, it is a ceremony where practitioners meet twice a month on a regular basis to confess and repent of their sins and to confirm that they will live pure lives. It is also called sermons, and is a transliteration of the Sanskrit Upavasatha. It is held on the full moon and new moon days of each month (the 15th and 30th), and all monks must attend as a rule.
