When the Kenmu government was established, Utsunomiya Fuyutsuna was appointed as the shugo (military governor), and this position continued under the Muromachi Shogunate. Miyano Jakue, Araki Ieari and others rushed to put down the Kiku Takamasa Rebellion that broke out in 1334 (the first year of the Kenmu era).
