A village in Yoshino County, central Nara Prefecture. Population 1,324 (1995). A mountain village occupying the upper reaches of Kurotakigawa River, a tributary of Yoshinogawa River. Forests make up the majority of the village area, and settlements are scattered along rivers such as Kurotakigawa River. The main industries are forestry and lumbering, and Yoshino cedar, cypress, kaki and pine are produced, with polished logs also being produced in large quantities. Flower cultivation and river fish farming are also carried out. In recent years the population has declined significantly, and in 1970 the area was designated a depopulated area. The mausoleum of Hōkakuji Temple, a famous Shingon Buddhist temple, has been designated an Important Cultural Property. 奈良県中央部,吉野郡の村。人口1324(1995)。吉野川支流黒滝川の上流域を占める山村。山林が村域の大部分を占め,集落は黒滝川などの河川に沿って散在する。主産業は林業,製材業で,吉野杉,ヒノキ,マキ,松が産出され,みがき丸太の生産量も多い。花卉栽培,川魚の養殖も行われる。近年人口の減少が著しく,1970年に過疎地域の指定を受けた。真言宗の名刹(めいさつ)鳳閣寺の廟塔は重要文化財に指定されている。【松原 宏】
