Rain gutter - Ukou

Small ditches formed by the action of rain on bare slopes. When there is no rainfall, there is no water flow. When the bare slope has a uniform slope and is made of homogeneous soil and rocks, rain gutters develop at approximately equal intervals. They are often formed by occasional heavy rain on sparsely vegetated slopes in arid and semi-arid regions. In humid regions, they often develop on cut slopes. Large ones are called gullies, and small ones are called rills. When rain gutters incise deeply enough to reach the groundwater table, they form permanent rivers.

裸地の傾斜地に雨の作用によって形成される小規模な溝。降雨がないときは水流がない。裸地斜面が一様な傾斜で、等質の土壌や岩石からなるときは、雨溝はほぼ等間隔に発達する。乾燥・半乾燥地域の植生の希薄な斜面に、たまに降る豪雨によって形成されることが多い。湿潤地域では、切り取った法面(のりめん)上によく発達する。大規模なものをガリーgully（雨谷）、小規模なものをリルrillという。雨溝が深く下刻して地下水面に達すると恒常的な河川を形成する。
