A perennial plant of the Brassicaceae family. Native to Europe, it is also called horseradish. The basal leaves have long petioles and are large and oblong, similar to those of dock. The stem leaves are lanceolate and serrated. From April to May, the flower stalks grow and produce many small white flowers in clusters. It has large, branched roots underground, which are white and fibrous, have a spicy taste and a unique fragrance, and are used as a spice like wasabi. It is also used as a diuretic.
