Mandibular foramen - science

…the upper end of the ramus divides into an articular process and a coronoid process, the former of which forms the head of the temporomandibular joint, and the latter to which the temporalis muscle, one of the masticatory muscles, is attached. The mandibular foramen is located on the medial side of the ramus, and from here the arch-shaped mandibular canal, formerly the site of Meckel's cartilage, runs forward and downward inside the bone and emerges at the mental foramen on the lateral side of the body. The inferior alveolar artery, vein, and nerve pass through this canal.
