Okamura Island

An island in the Geiyo Islands in northern Ehime Prefecture. It belongs to Imabari City. There is shipping from Imabari. Surrounded by Omishima, Osakikamijima, and Osakishimojima, it forms a triangle measuring 3 km east to west and 2 km north to south, with an area of ​​3.13 square kilometers. It is connected to Osakishimojima via Nakanoshima and Heirajima by the Okashima Bridge and other routes, and is connected to Honshu (Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture) by land. Since ancient times, it has been a key point for maritime traffic on the Itsukinada Sea, and there are forts of the Murakami Navy at Kannonzaki and Okamura. The descendants of the Navy were appointed mountain guards by the lord of Matsuyama, and began settling on the island. The main industries are mandarin orange cultivation and fishing. Population 482 (2009).

愛媛県北部、芸予諸島にある島。今治(いまばり)市に属す。今治から船便がある。大三島、大崎上島、大崎下島に囲まれ、東西3キロメートル、南北2キロメートルの三角形をなし、面積3.13平方キロメートル。大崎下島とは、中ノ島、平羅島経由で岡島大橋などによって結ばれ、陸路で本州（広島県呉市）に通じている。古代から斎灘(いつきなだ)の海上交通の要衝で、観音崎(かんのんざき)、岡村に村上水軍の城砦(じょうさい)がある。水軍の子孫が松山藩主に山番を命ぜられ、島への定住が始まった。ミカン栽培、漁業が主産業。人口482（2009）。
