The script used by the Indus Valley Civilization. Nearly 400 scripts are known. Teams from Russia, Northern Europe, and India are currently working on deciphering it using computers, but it has not yet been deciphered. It is believed to have been close to a phonetic alphabet, and the language is presumed to be proto-Dravidian. The characters are generally engraved on lithograph seals, copper pieces, and occasionally on pottery, but the number of characters is small, with the longest inscription being 17. It is written from right to left, with the second line reversed. [Masaaki Konishi] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
