...Sicily (241 BC), Sardinia (238 BC), Spain (197 BC), and Africa (146 BC). In northern Italy, they defeated the Boii (224-220 BC) and the Insubres (200-191 BC) to secure Cisalpine Gaul, and conquered the Ligurians (197-154 BC), the Historias (178-177 BC), and the Dalmatian coast (156-155 BC, 129 BC), bringing the area from Massilia (now Marseilles) to the west coast of the Balkans under their control. On the other hand, in the eastern Mediterranean, after eradicating pirates in the Adriatic Sea, they defeated the Kingdom of Illyricum in two wars (229-228 BC, 219 BC) and brought the Illyric coast under their control, and fought against Philip V of Macedonia, an ally of the Carthaginian general Hannibal (First Macedonian War).
