A general term for regenerated protein fibers made by regenerating natural proteins. They are made by extracting proteins from soybeans, casein, and peanuts, dissolving them in dilute alkali, and then spinning, stretching, and hardening them. Fibrolane is produced in small quantities in the UK, Merinova (formerly Lanital) in Italy, and Chinon in Japan (all trademarks). Chinon is a man-made fiber similar to silk, made by combining casein and acrylonitrile. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
