Impressionism Criticism

In 1865, he became a private tutor at Brasenose College, and thereafter he rarely left the college, living a solitary life of thought and writing until his death. His first work as a critic was The Renaissance, published in 1873, which led to his being regarded as a defender of "art for art's sake" and the father of so-called "impressionist criticism." He had a strong influence on Aesthetic writers of the late 19th century, including O. Wilde, but he was also criticized for ignoring religion and morality.
