Amano Yasukage
Year of death: February 24, 1613 (April 14, 1613)
Year of birth: Tenbun 6 (1537)
A military commander in the Sengoku and early Edo periods. He was commonly known as Matagoro and Saburobei, and was originally named Kageyoshi. He started out as a page to Tokugawa Ieyasu, but in 1565, he was selected as one of the three Mikawa magistrates along with Takachika Kiyonaga and Honda Shigetsugu, in recognition of his contributions to the pacification of Mikawa. After Ieyasu entered Edo Castle, he was briefly appointed Edo town magistrate, and in 1601 he became a hereditary daimyo and was in charge of the 10,000 koku Suruga Kokokuji domain. In 1609, Yasukage's foot soldiers killed a peasant from the Tenryo domain who was trying to steal materials for the castle, and shortly after a "decree" was issued stating, "The peasants are to be stopped from committing acts of mischief," Yasukage fled while shielding him, and was stripped of his title.
