A district of Kurihara City in northern Miyagi Prefecture. Formerly Iwagasaki Town. National Route 457 runs through the area. Since 1694 (7th year of Genroku), it was the castle of Nakamura Hyuga no Kami, a vassal of the Sendai Domain. It was also a valley-guchi settlement, and as a market town, the horse market was particularly popular. There is the Michinoku Folk Museum, which introduces the culture and history of the Kurikoma region.
