Yoshitsuna Ashikaga

A military commander in the Sengoku period. His father was Shogun Ashikaga Yoshizumi, and there is a theory that he was Yoshiharu's older brother. He was born while Yoshizumi was staying at the Kuri clan residence in Okayama, Omi Province, after being pursued by Ashikaga Yoshitane. In 1521, Yoshitane fled to Awa and he became an adopted son, and came of age in Awa Hirashima. In 1522, Ashikaga Yoshiharu and Hosokawa Takakuni were defeated in the Battle of Katsura River, and when Hosokawa Harumoto's government was established, he landed in Sakai, and in July of the same year, he was appointed Left Horse Captain with the rank of Junior Fifth Rank, and became known as "Sakai Taiju" and "Sakai Kubo," and stood at the top of the Kinai government. The Sakai Kubo government ruled Kinai for five years. In June 1532, the family steward Miyoshi Motonaga was defeated and killed due to a conflict with Hosokawa Harumoto, and Yoshitsuna returned to Awa. He continued to seek the position of Shogun, but was unsuccessful. In February 1568, his son Yoshihide became Shogun, but the government was destroyed when Oda Nobunaga entered Kyoto.

戦国時代の武将。父は将軍足利義澄で,義晴の同母兄との説がある。義澄が足利義稙に追われて近江岡山の九里氏館に滞在中,出生。大永1(1521)年阿波に出奔した義稙の猶子となり,阿波平島に成人する。同7年の桂川合戦で足利義晴,細川高国が敗れ,細川晴元政権が成立すると堺に上陸,同7月従五位下左馬頭に叙任され,「堺大樹」「堺公方」と呼ばれ畿内政権の頂点に立った。堺公方府は5年間畿内を支配。天文1(1532)年6月,細川晴元との対立が因で家宰三好元長が敗死し,義維は阿波に戻った。以後も将軍就任をうかがったが果たさず,永禄11(1568)年2月,子の義栄が将軍となるも,織田信長の入京で政権は潰えた。<参考文献>長江正一『三好長慶』
