A type of capacitor (electrical storage device) used in electric circuits. Also called a paper capacitor. The capacitance is 100 picofarads to 10 microfarads. Two or more sheets of condenser paper (insulated paper) and metal foil (approximately 5 to 6 micrometers thick) of aluminum, tin, lead, etc. are alternately layered and rolled up, soaked in an impregnating agent, and sealed. Paraffin was initially used as the impregnating agent, and later vegetable oil and silicone oil were used. Since the 1980s, sealed metal cases used in low-frequency power circuits have become oil-free for disaster prevention reasons, and products filled with nitrogen gas have been developed. Polypropylene film is also used as the dielectric instead of paper.
