Katsuura [Hot Springs] - Katsuura

Japanese: 勝浦[温泉] - かつうら

This hot spring is located in Nachikatsuura Town, Higashimuro County, in the southern part of Wakayama Prefecture. It is a simple hydrogen sulfide spring, 27-60°C. It is located at the head of Katsuura Bay, which extends deep into the Kumano Nada Sea, and is lined with modern hot spring inns. Hot springs have been gushing out in various places along the bay since ancient times, and pilgrims to Kumano have stopped here and there. When the Kisei Main Line was fully opened in 1959, it rapidly developed as a tourist base for Yoshino-Kumano National Park, and has become one of the most representative hot spring resorts in southern Kii, along with Shirahama Onsen. With scenic views of the Kinomatsushima islands and cave baths such as the Bouki-do cave, it is crowded with tourists throughout the year.

和歌山県南部，東牟婁（ひがしむろ）郡那智勝浦町にある温泉。単純硫化水素泉，27～60℃。熊野灘から深く入り込んだ勝浦湾の湾奥にあり，近代的な温泉旅館が立ち並ぶ。古くから湾岸各所に温泉が湧き出ており，熊野参詣者が足をとめた。1959年紀勢本線が全通すると，吉野熊野国立公園の観光基地として急激に発展し，白浜温泉と並ぶ南紀の代表的な温泉郷となった。紀ノ松島の島嶼（とうしよ）群の景勝や忘帰洞などの洞窟ぶろがあり，四季を通じて観光客でにぎわう。
