Originally a fisherman who lived in Imamiyahama, Settsu (currently Ebisucho, Naniwa-ku, Osaka), during the Heian period he became a Shinto priest of the Ebisu Shrine (Imamiya Ebisu Shrine) and engaged in the trade of seafood.
