[Semantics]
It comes from the Latin imago, which corresponds to the Greek eikōn and phantasma, and originally meant the form of something perceived visually, but by extension came to mean the mental representation of something perceived by the senses. It also refers to the materialization of a mental representation, such as a photograph or print, or a newly created mental representation, such as a product of the imagination, a dream, or a daydream.
