Kami shrimp - Kami shrimp

A deciduous wisteria plant of the Menispermaceae family (APG classification: Menispermaceae). Dioecious. Branches and petioles are covered with white hairs. Leaves are alternate, broadly ovate, entire. Some have three shallow lobes. In July and August, slightly long inflorescences emerge from the leaf axils, producing many small pale yellow flowers. There are six sepals and petals. Male flowers have six stamens, and female flowers have six carpels. Drupes are indigo-black with a powdery white tinge. Common in the mountains and fields of southern Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and widely distributed in Asia. The roots and stems are called mokuboui and are used as diuretics, analgesics, and antipyretics. Also called blue vine and pinpin kazura. "Kami" is said to be the god and "ebi" is said to be the spitting image of the crab. There are about eight species in the genus Kami shrimp, which are distributed in East Asia, eastern North America, Mexico, and Africa.
