...The type of pair relationship that is formed between the male and female at that time is called the mating type (corresponding to the marriage system in humans). Mating types can be classified according to whether the pair relationship is between one male and one female, multiple males, or whether there is no specific pair relationship at all, and can be classified into four types: monogamy, polygamy, polyandry, and promiscuity. Polygamy and polyandry are sometimes collectively called polygamy.
