Book of Malachi (English spelling) Mal'ākî (Hebrew)

This is the last book of the twelve minor prophets in the Old Testament. Malachi means "my messenger" and refers to an anonymous prophet of God Yahweh. It consists of four chapters (three chapters in the original text), and roughly states the following: Yahweh loved the people of Israel (1:2-5). However, they offered sacrifices incorrectly (1:6-2:9), married pagan women, and neglected the marriage covenant (2:10-16). The day of judgment is near (2:17-3:5). Pay your tithes properly (3:6-12). Yahweh will judge those who do evil, and he will save those who fear his name (3:13-4:6). This book was written after 515 BC, and is a prophetic book with a strong apocalyptic tone.

『旧約聖書』の十二小預言書結尾の一書。マラキとは「わが使者」を意味し、神ヤーウェの、匿名の預言者をさす。全体は4章（原典区分では3章）からなり、概略次のことを述べる。ヤーウェはイスラエルの民を愛した（1章2節～5節）。しかし彼らは犠牲の捧(ささ)げ方を誤り（1章6節～2章9節）、異教の女をめとり、結婚の契約をないがしろにした（2章10節～16節）。審(さば)きの日は近い（2章17節～3章5節）。10分の1税を正しく納めよ（3章6節～12節）。ヤーウェは悪を行う者を審き、神の名を畏(おそ)れる者を救う（3章13節～4章6節）。本書は紀元前515年以降に成立した、終末論的色調の濃い預言書である。
