… When considering the question of how a base sequence can determine an amino acid sequence, one of the mysteries is that there are only four types of bases, but 20 types of amino acids. In 1961, FHC Crick and S. Brenner reported through brilliant genetic experiments and theoretical considerations that codons are made up of triplet bases, and that of the total 64 types of codons (4 x 4 x 4), 61 correspond to amino acids and three correspond to end-of-reading signals.
