Entente Cordiale (English) French

It is translated as "sincere entente" or "amicianship" and refers to the establishment of friendly relations between nations. Historically, it originates from the friendly relations between Britain and France from around 1830 to 1834. The July Revolution in France in 1830 led to a rise in liberal sentiment in Europe, and in response, Russia, Austria, and Prussia concluded a treaty in October 1832 to reaffirm their commitment to maintaining the old order. As a result, British Foreign Secretary Palmerston approached the government of the new French king, Louis Philippe, and established friendly relations in opposition to the aforementioned East European Conservative Alliance. This term was later used to refer to the Anglo-French Entente that was established in 1904, and to the subsequent friendly relations between the two countries.

真摯(しんし)協商、親睦(しんぼく)協商などと訳され、国家間の親善関係成立を意味する。歴史的には、1830年から1834年ごろのイギリス・フランス間の親善関係に由来する。1830年のフランスの七月革命を機にヨーロッパに自由主義的気運が高まり、これに対抗して1832年10月、ロシア、オーストリア、プロイセンが旧秩序維持を再確認する条約を締結した。そのためイギリスのパーマストン外相は、フランスの新王ルイ・フィリップの政府に接近、前述の東欧保守連合に対抗して親善関係を結んだのである。その後1904年に成立したイギリス・フランス協商や、その後の両国の親善関係についてもこのことばが用いられた。
