Born on July 7, 1859. Became an assistant professor at his alma mater, the University of Tokyo, where he taught forensic medicine and hygiene. In 1888 he became a professor, and the following year he opened Japan's first forensic medicine course. In 1902 he founded the Dojinkai Society to promote medical exchange with Qing (China) and Korea. In his later years he devoted himself to the temperance movement. He passed away on November 3, 1931. He was 77 years old. He was born in Totomi (Shizuoka Prefecture). His works include "Lectures on the Latest Forensic Medicine."
