...The Azusa River system generates a maximum output of 960,000 kW (1997) through pumped storage power generation, which is transmitted to the Keihin region. In addition, the Nakanobuhara Agricultural Water Project, which draws water from the Inakane Dam, irrigates 10,000 hectares of the southern Matsumoto Basin. The Azusa River system is also home to many hot springs, including those in Kamikochi, Nakabusa, Sakamaki, and Shirahone.

The Azumi Power Station directly below the dam generates 623,000kW of pumped storage power using the downstream Midono Dam (arch dam, height 95.5m) as a lower reservoir, and the combined maximum output of the Midono Dam's Midono Power Station and the downstream Inekoki Dam's Ryujima Power Station (arch dam, height 60m) reaches 900,000kW. When constructing the Nakado Dam, a special construction method was used, such as spraying high-pressure water of 100kgf/cm2 to remove the fault and replace it with concrete, because using explosives to excavate the foundation rock could loosen the surrounding rock.
