...Hershel's activities are true, but the contents of the discovery were the creation of a reporter named Richard Adams Locke, and were a deliberate misreport to increase circulation. One notable misreport in postwar Japan was the September 27, 1952, issue of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper about an interview with Ito Ritsu, a Communist Party official who was in hiding at the time. The headline, "Ito in the mountains of Takarazuka -- Interview by our newspaper reporter," was advertised as a major scoop, but in fact it was a fabricated piece by a reporter from the newspaper's Kobe branch (corrected on September 30). ...
