Idehara

This plain stretches from 800 to 1100 meters above sea level on the southeastern foot of Akadake, the main peak of the Yatsugatake Mountains that tower over the border between Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures. It belongs to Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. To the east, separated by the gorge of the Kawamata River, is Nenbahara. A volcanic alluvial fan, its surface is covered in volcanic ash soil, but there are springs in the western and southern parts and they have long been developed. The rest of the area was developed after World War II, mainly for dairy farming. Currently, it is developing as a resort tourist destination with the introduction of highland vegetables and the provision of school dormitories, guesthouses and villas.

山梨・長野県境にそびえる八(やつ)ヶ岳の主峰赤岳の南東麓(ろく)、標高800～1100メートルに広がる原野。山梨県北杜市(ほくとし)に属する。東には川俣(かわまた)川の峡谷を隔て念場(ねんば)原がある。火山山麓扇状地で、表面は火山灰土に覆われるが、その西部と南部には湧水(ゆうすい)があり開発が古い。他の部分は第二次世界大戦後に開拓され、酪農を中心とした。現在は、高原野菜の導入と、学校寮、民宿あるいは別荘などの保養観光地として発展しつつある。
