Kitayama Excerpts

Written by Fujiwara Kinto. 10 volumes. A book of court customs that explains regular and special court ceremonies, central and local government affairs, and the advancement and retirement of military officers below General Konoe, citing numerous documents and records, including national histories. Many of the citations are no longer in existence. Just as the volume on General Konoe was written for his son-in-law, Fujiwara Norimichi, these were originally written separately and later compiled into one book. Kinto was called Shijo Dainagon, so in the past it was also called "Shijo-ki" or "Shijo Dainagon-sho," and the current title is derived from the place where Kinto lived in seclusion. Kinto was close to Mido Kanpaku Michinaga, so this book was highly valued for a long time, along with "Nishinomiya-ki" and "Gouke-shidai." There remains one volume of draft written by Kin'nin himself, as well as many other copies, and a typeset version is included in the "Kojitsu Sosho" collection.
