…After moving to Tokyo in 1896, he became familiar with the haiku of the “Japan” school, but in 1914, while recuperating in Shinshu after falling ill with kidney problems, he decided to seriously pursue haiku at the urging of Takahama Kyoshi. The following year, with the support of Osuga Otsuji, he founded the haiku magazine “Shakunage” and devoted himself to haiku, publishing “Arakusho” in 1825. He based the ideal of haiku on “truth” and pursued it as a path that went beyond art. …
