Born: 1839, Craiseries, near Paris
[Died] May 28, 1871. Paris, France. Revolutionary during the Second Empire. At the founding of the First International in 1864, he served as Secretary General of the French branch, and participated in drafting the International's Statutes at the Geneva Congress. In February 1871, he became a member of the National Assembly and a Central Committee member of the National Guard. After the Paris Commune uprising on March 18, he served as a Central Committee member of the National Assembly and organized the Resistance during the "Bloody Week", but was shot to death on May 28.
