Arab scholar and author. Born in Kift in Upper Egypt. Both his father and grandfather were Ayyubid government officials. He himself served as a government official under the Ayyubid dynasty in Syria under the Attar Beg dynasty, while also studying and writing. His most important work is a dictionary of biographies of scientists and philosophers, titled "History of the Wise," excerpts of which have been passed down to the present day. This is indispensable for research into the history of philosophy and science in the Islamic world. He is said to have also written a history of the Seljuk dynasty, but no such remains remain.

アラブの学者，著作家。上エジプトのキフトに生まれる。父も祖父もアイユーブ朝に仕える官僚であった。彼自身も官吏としてシリアのアイユーブ朝下のアター･ベク諸侯に仕える一方，学問を修め著作に励んだ。もっとも重要な著作は，科学者，哲学者の伝記を編さんした辞典で《智者の歴史》として，その抜粋が現在に伝わっている。これはイスラム世界の哲学史，科学史の研究には欠かせないものである。セルジューク朝史も書いたといわれるが残っていない。
