Nagoya

Japanese:
Nagoya

A district in Chinzei Town, Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. Formerly known as Nagoya Village. It was also written as "Nagoya". It is located at the northern end of the Higashi Matsuura Peninsula, which juts out into the Iki Channel (Genkai Sea). The remains of Nagoya Castle, a national special historic site, are known as the base of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea. Nagoya Castle is a flatland castle built on Mount Katsuo (mountain Kakizoe), about 80 meters above sea level, and is said to have been the residence of the Nagoya clan of the Matsuura clan in the Middle Ages. Located just off the deep inlet of Nagoya Bay, it is the shortest route from Iki and Tsushima to Korea, and there are many ruins and legends related to Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea. A Japanese tea garden called "Kuragetsu" has been created in one corner of the castle ruins. In 1993, the Saga Prefectural Nagoya Castle Museum was opened. The villages of Oka, which are located on the basalt hilly plateau, mainly make a living from agriculture, while the villages on the coast are mainly engaged in fishing. The "Bon Tsuna-neri" ceremony, which is held to pray for a good catch, is a representative annual event. National Route 204 crosses Nagoya Ohashi Bridge, which spans Nagoya Bay, and is part of the tourist course of the Genkai Quasi-National Park.
