…この株は，ブレティア･ベレクンダBletia verecunda R.Br.で，翌年開花し，ヨーロッパにおける洋ランの最初のものとなったとされている。その後78年に，鶴頂蘭（かくちようらん）Phajus grandifolius Lindl.(＝P.tancarvilleae (Banks) Bl.)が東南アジアからイギリスに輸入され，さらに1818年，カトレア･ラビアタCattleya labiata Lindl.が，ブラジルで発見される，など次々と洋ランが見つかりはじめた。これらはおもにラン株をとる採集家orchid hunterによってイギリスへ送りこまれたが，この採集行は積極的に行われた。…
