Among various economic indicators, this is an indicator that moves in line with economic trends such as prosperity and recession. In contrast, indicators that lead the economy are called leading indicators, and indicators that move behind are called lagging indicators. In Japan, the Cabinet Office creates an economic activity index using 30 representative economic indicators, and 11 of these are used as coincident indicators: production index (mining and manufacturing), index of shipments of mining and manufacturing producer goods (manufacturing), large-scale electricity consumption, capacity utilization index (manufacturing), index of overtime hours (manufacturing), index of shipments of investment goods (excluding transportation machinery), department store sales, retail sales index (wholesale), operating profits (all industries), sales of small and medium-sized enterprises (manufacturing), and job availability ratio (excluding school graduates). When the coincident indicator is above 50% as a trend, it is considered to be in an expansionary phase, and when it is below 50%, it is considered to be in a recessionary phase.

各種の経済指標のうちで景気動向の好，不況などに一致して動く指標。これに対して先行する指標を先行指標，遅れて動く指標を遅行指標という。日本では内閣府が代表的な経済指標 30系列によって景気動向指数を作成しているが，このうち一致指標としては，生産指数 (鉱工業) ，鉱工業生産財出荷指数 (製造業) ，大口電力使用量，稼働率指数 (製造業) ，所定外労働時間指数 (製造業) ，投資財出荷指数 (除輸送機械) ，百貨店販売額，商業販売額指数 (卸売業) ，営業利益 (全産業) ，中小企業売上高 (製造業) ，有効求人倍率 (除学卒) の 11系列が採用されている。一致指標が基調として 50%を上回っているときには拡大局面，50%を下回っているときには後退局面と判断される。
