Disguised Person

A full-length novel by Tokuda Shusei. It was serialized in Keizai Orai (retitled Nihon Hyoron in October 1935) from July 1938. It was published by Chuokoron-Shinsha in December 1938. It won the first Kikuchi Kan Prize. The story depicts the love and lust of the middle-aged writer Inamura Yozo, who is attracted to Kozue Yoko, a young aspiring writer who approaches him after the death of his wife. Inamura Yozo is ashamed to have appeared unexpectedly on such an extraordinary stage, but is unable to retreat skillfully. It is a masterpiece of the author's autobiographical novel style, depicting the negotiations between Inamura Yozo and Yamada Junko in a seamless composition that blends fact and fiction.

徳田秋声(とくだしゅうせい)の長編小説。1935年（昭和10）7月から38年8月まで『経済往来』（35年10月『日本評論』と改題）に連載された。38年12月、中央公論社刊。第1回菊池寛賞受賞。初老の作家稲村庸三(ようぞう)が、妻の死後に近づいてきた若い作家志望の梢(こずえ)葉子にひきつけられ、「飛んでもない舞台へ、いつともなし登場して来たことを慚(は)ぢながらも、手際のいい引込みも素直には出来かねる」仮装の人物として展開する愛欲を描く。秋声と山田順子との交渉を、虚実の間に天衣無縫な構成によって描いた、作者の私小説系の傑作である。
