A former town in Inashiki County in southern Ibaraki Prefecture. It was incorporated as a town on September 1, 1996 from Higashi Village. It faces Lake Kasumigaura to the north and Chiba Prefecture across the Tone River to the south. The town once suffered from floods, but after World War II, water improvement projects eliminated these problems, and neat rice paddy fields spread across the area. In recent years, dairy farming, flower and vegetable cultivation have also been carried out. In 1990, the Tsukuba East Industrial Park was developed, and efforts are being made to attract businesses. In March 2005, it merged with Edosaki Town, Shintone Town, and Sakuragawa Village in Inashiki County to become a city, Inashiki City. 61.45 km2 . Population: 12,745 (2003).East [town] [Azuma]Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
