…The foundations of Nishijin textile industry were gradually solidified, but the content was not the same as it had been in the past. Intricate techniques such as monra were not easily revived, but on the other hand, efforts were directed at inventing new products, as reported by the Daitonohe-zacho (Great Toneri-zacho) Iseki Sorin who developed a new fabric by weaving patterns into thin woven woven ware in the Kōji era (1555-58). Weaving techniques for Chinese Ming-dynasty textiles, brocade, satin, and saaya, crepe, and other fabrics that had been introduced to Sakai were gradually brought to Nishijin, and these new products began to be produced one after another. …
