…Adrenocorticotropic hormone ( ACTH There are various types of cortisol, including excessive secretion of ACTH from the adrenal cortex (Cushing's disease, first reported by the American H. Cushing (1869-1939)), excessive secretion of cortisol from a tumor in the adrenal cortex, and increased secretion of cortisol from the adrenal glands as a result of secretion of ACTH from a tumor outside the pituitary gland (ectopic ACTH syndrome).
[Symptoms/Diagnosis]
Symptoms include moon face, central obesity (obesity of the trunk only), striae, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, menstrual irregularities, hirsutism, hypokalemia, and impaired glucose tolerance.
