Stone ground - Ishiji

Japanese: 石地 - いしじ

This area is part of Nishiyamacho, Kashiwazaki City, in the mid-west of Niigata Prefecture. It is a fishing village along the old Hokuriku road and is now a swimming beach. The area was also the center of the old Nishiyama oil fields during the Meiji and Taisho eras, and is home to Kyukanso Villa, the residence of the famous oil tycoon Naito. After World War II, the shallow coastline was used as a swimming beach, and during the season it is crowded with beachgoers from the Kanto region. Hamayaki is a local specialty.

新潟県中西部、柏崎市(かしわざきし)西山町(にしやまちょう)の一地区。旧北陸道に沿う漁村で、現在は海水浴場。また、付近は明治・大正時代旧西山油田の中心をなし、有名な石油王内藤邸の久観荘(きゅうかんそう)がある。第二次世界大戦後は遠浅の海岸線が海水浴場に生かされ、シーズン中は関東圏からの海水浴客でにぎわう。浜焼きが名物。
