A poet and politician from the Timurid period in Central Asia. While serving as the vizier at the Herat court under Sultan Husayn (reigned 1470-1506), he wrote excellent literary works in Chagatai Turkish, including six long poems in the Masnavi style, four collections of short poems, and a collection of quatrains, and contributed to establishing the status of Turkish as a written language. He is still revered as a cultural hero by the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. [Mano Eiji]

中央アジアのティムール朝時代の詩人，政治家。スルターン･フサイン(在位1470‐1506)治下のヘラートの宮廷で宰相をつとめるかたわら，チャガタイ･トルコ語を用いて6部のマスナビー体の長編詩，4部の短編詩集，それに四行詩集などのすぐれた文学作品を著して，トルコ語の文章語としての地位の確立に貢献。現在も中央アジアのトルコ系諸民族によって文化的英雄として尊崇されている。【間野英二】
