Japanese: 等面積投影法 - とうめんせきとうえいほう（英語表記）equal‐area projection

It is sometimes called the Lambert projection after its inventor, J. H. Lambert, and the Schmidt projection after W. Schmidt, who first used it in structural petrology. This projection is designed to represent, when analyzing the orientation and relative positions of planes in three-dimensional space on a flat surface, equal areas on a spherical surface that are set are represented equally on the projection surface without being distorted by position.

考案者の名J.H.ランバートをとりランベルト投影法Lambert projection，構造岩石学に初めて用いたW.シュミットの名をとりシュミット投影法Schmidt projectionということもある。三次元空間内の平面の向きや面相互の位置関係を平面上に表して解析するとき，設定される球面上での相互に等しい面積が，投影面上においても，位置によってゆがめられずに等しく表現されるように工夫された投影法。
