One of China's ethnic minorities. Sometimes written as "Dahur". Population: 121,500 (1990). Also called Daur or Daghor, they speak the Daghor language. They mainly live on the right bank of the Nenjiang River in the northeastern region, with small groups scattered across the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. They make their living by farming and raising livestock, and until recently practiced shamanism. Until the mid-17th century, they lived in the valleys of the Argun River and the Zeya River, tributaries of the Amur River (Heilongjiang), and are believed to have migrated to the Nenjiang River basin at the end of the 17th century.
