Oishi Village

Japanese: 大石村 - おおいしむら
Oishi Village

...A city in the southern part of Saitama Prefecture. In 1955, the three towns of Ageo, Haraichi, and Hirakata and the three villages of Otani, Oishi, and Kamitaira were merged, and the city was established in 1958. The population is 206,090 (1995). It is located in the center of the Omiya Plateau, and the Arakawa River flows on the western border and the Ayase River on the eastern border. Ageo, the central town, developed from a post town on the Nakasendo road, Haraichi in the east as a market town, and Hirakata in the west as a riverside settlement on the Arakawa river. The surrounding rural areas were known for producing barley and sweet potatoes, but are now shifting to suburban agriculture, mainly vegetable and fruit cultivation and livestock farming. The Takasaki Line and National Route 17 run through the city, and it is 40 km from the center of Tokyo. Since there is a lot of flat land, the city has good transportation access, and since the 1960s, industrial parks have been established in Hiratsuka, Boyama, and Ryoke, attracting factories for automobiles, non-ferrous metals, food, and other products, making it one of the leading industrial cities in the prefecture.
