[Spanish-American Literature]
Latin American literature, centered on Spanish America, has a history of about 500 years, beginning with the Age of Discovery and Conquest at the end of the 15th century, passing through the colonial period, entering the era of independence, and continuing to the present day. First, in the Age of Discovery and Conquest, the history of literature is shaped by the diaries, records, reports, chronicles, and letters of the conquerors and clergy who participated in the conquests. Major works include the handwritten Journal of the Voyages of Columbus by Las Casas, Hernán Cortés' Five Reports (1519-26), Las Casas' Concise Account of the Destruction of the Indies (1552), and Bernal Díaz del Castillo's (1495/96-1584) Historia de Conquest de New Spain (1552).

　スペイン系アメリカを中心にしたラテン･アメリカ文学は，15世紀末の発見･征服の時代から始まり，植民地時代を経て，独立時代に入り，現代にいたる約500年の歴史をもっている。まず発見･征服の時代には，それに参加した征服者や聖職者の日記，記録，報告，年代記，書簡などが文学史を形成することになる。そのおもなものをあげると，ラス･カサスの手書本による《コロンブス航海誌》，エルナン･コルテスの《五つの報告書》(1519‐26)，ラス･カサスの《インディアス破壊に関する簡潔な報告》(1552)，ベルナル･ディアス･デル･カスティリョBernal Díaz del Castillo(1495か96‐1584)の《新スペイン征服正史》(1552)などである。
