A Russian female dancer. A famous ballerina who was praised on a par with Pavlova. Born in Rostov-on-Don, she graduated from the Imperial Choreographic School in St. Petersburg. After working at the Mariinsky Theater, she performed with Nijinsky in the Ballets Russes' US tour in 1916, and starred in a revised version of The Sleeping Beauty in London in 1921. She left her home country in 1924 and solidified her reputation with a revival of Giselle at the Paris Opera, which had not been performed for half a century.
