...To the west of the crater plain is the central crater cone, Mount Ogurohime, which forms a dome. The foothills of the eastern and southern foothills, known as the Kashiwara Plateau, have been settled and developed since 1946, reaching an altitude of 800-900m. Buckwheat, soybeans, and other crops were cultivated here, but the cold damage of 1953 led to the area being transformed into an agricultural region, with dairy farming at the core.
