It is also read as "Shiaku." A group of islands in the Bisan Islands in the Seto Inland Sea, in the northern part of Kagawa Prefecture. It belongs to Sakaide City, Marugame City, Tadotsu Town, and Mitoyo City, and consists of about 30 islands with a total area of about 37 km2 . Hiroshima (the largest), Honjima, Ushijima, Takamijima, Teshima, Hitsuishijima, and Yoshijima are the center of the Shiwaku Seven Islands. It is mainly made of granite, and although stone is also produced, its main industries are field farming and fishing. It has been a key point for maritime traffic since ancient times, and was a battlefield during the Fujiwara no Sumitomo Rebellion. Later, it played an active role in the Korean Expedition under Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and in the Edo period, there was a system of personal names (ninmyo) that granted land sovereignty and fishing rights in the surrounding area in exchange for serving the shogunate. It is included in the Setonaikai National Park, and there are shipping routes from the ports of Marugame and Tadotsu.
