A world-famous German automobile manufacturer. Horch, founded by August Horch in 1899, Audi, founded in 1910, and two other German automobile manufacturers, Wanderer and DKW, merged to form Auto Union AG in 1932. The Audi symbol, with four overlapping rings, represents these four companies. In 1958, the company was acquired by Daimler-Benz, but in 1964 it became a subsidiary of Volkswagen, and in 1969 it merged with NSU, famous for its rotary engine. In 1985, the company adopted its current name. The main model is the mid-class Audi A4 series. The company is well-known worldwide for its design skills, and is proactive in developing new technologies. In recent years, the company has announced the A8 sedan with an all-aluminum body with the cooperation of ALCOA, and its sports cars are also growing. The Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini is under its umbrella. The company attracted attention by increasing sales and sales volume during the global recession. 世界的に有名なドイツの自動車メーカー。1899年にアウグスト・ホルヒが設立したホルヒ社と1910年設立のアウディ社，さらに二つのドイツ自動車メーカー，バンダラー社とDKW(デーカーベー)社が合併し，1932年アウト・ウニオンAG社になる。四つの輪が重なりあったアウディのシンボルマークは，この４社を表す。1958年，ダイムラー・ベンツに買収されたが1964年にはフォルクスワーゲン社の子会社となり，1969年にロータリーエンジンで有名なNSU社と合併。1985年に現社名となる。主力車種はミドルクラスのアウディA４シリーズ。世界的にそのデザイン力には定評があり，新技術の開発に積極的。近年はALCOA社の協力でオール・アルミ・ボディのA8セダンを発表，このほかスポーツカーも伸びている。傘下にイタリアのスポーツカーメーカー，ランボルギーニ社がある。世界同時不況のなかで売上げ，販売台数を伸ばして注目された。本社インゴルシュタット。2011年12月期売上高440億9600万ユーロ。
