Ikeda Castle

Japanese:
Ikeda Castle
Hirayama Castle was located in Shiroyama-cho, Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture. It was the castle of the local lord Ikeda Clan, who ruled this area from the Muromachi period to the Sengoku period. The Ikeda Clan gradually strengthened its power, and in the late 15th century, during the time of Mitsumasa , they were powerful vassals of the Hosokawa Clan, the guardian of Settsu. Mitsumasa attempted to expand the size of the castle, including expanding the Sannomaru. In 1508 ( Eisho 5), Ikeda Sadamasa fought against Hosokawa Takakuni and the castle fell, but his eldest son Hisamune recaptured it. In 1568 (Eiroku 11), when Oda Nobunaga entered Settsu, he surrendered to Nobunaga's army and was appointed as one of the three guardians of Settsu. Later, taking advantage of an internal conflict within the Ikeda Clan, Araki Murashige took control of Ikeda Castle, and after Murashige moved to Itami Castle, Ikeda Castle was abandoned. Excavations conducted since the beginning of the Heisei era have restored the tiger's entrance, earthworks, drainage ditches, wells, and dry landscape gardens, and a replica castle tower and gate have been built. The main area has been developed into a castle park. It is a 15-minute walk from Ikeda Station on the Hankyu Railway Takarazuka Line.
